Digital Video Recording of Models in Flight

Hello All,

I was thinking of doing a bit of video recording of a few of the models at PMFC. We get some quite interesting stuff being flown there which could be interesting to record and watch.

But(!), I have absolute no idea what camera/recorder equipment to use.... I could of course use my iPhone or iPad, but the model will quickly disappear

So, can anyone lend me a hand and give their input?

My requirements are:

1). Budget is £250
2). I'm prepared to look at buying new or perhaps second hand off eBay
3). I want to be able to video standing back a bit from the flight line, so that there is more chance of having some background (trees, land, etc.) to help give perspective. I might even stand atop the PMFC club house/container if I can get permission
4). Per 3 above, I'm not looking to always be 100% zoomed in on the aeroplane - But I obviously do need to be able to get close
5). Auto focus and zoom would be great (But how well do these work on a moving model?)
6). I need to be able to record for at least 30 minues, perferably an hour.

This is all for some very non-serious digital video recording - I'm not looking to get into the same league as others such as ESSENTIALRC or TBOBBORAP1....

For 250 I don't think you'll get any useful results. For a bit more you could get a bridge camera with a strong optical zoom.

Hey mate, I have a Panasonic HC-X900 camcorder that I’d sell

I bought it on Dominics recommendation (EssentialRC) and it is the same camera he used to use to produce his videos before he upgraded to 4K

It produces brilliant results, but I am just not using it now!

Let me know if it’s something you’d be interested in ;)

Cheers, Dave.
