Engine assistance required

Postby longone on Wed Jan 09, 2019 12:24 pm

Hi All,

Happy New Year to you.

I have a quick question for you all... I am using a Saito FG40 and the prop is secured in place with the prop washer, the main nut and the anti-loosening nut.

I have purchased the official Saito dome nut to aid in starting the engine, however there is not enough thread left on the shaft to add this on... so my question is...

Is it safe to use the prop washer + the main prop nut + the large dome spinner nut instead of the anti-loosening nut? All obviously tightened and if needed, with some light thread lock for added peice of mind.

Thanks in advance.

Haden.

Yes, you don't need loctite, just tighten the prop nut to the washer with a spanner no more than 150mm long (leverage)
and use the tommy bar to tighten the dome nut over the lot.
The FG series have low compression and little kick back.

great, thanks Dave.

That is what I have now done, albeit with a small amount of lock tight... and not used the small locknut that came with it. thanks... the dome nut should be easier on my started ;)
