Well I fitted Zimmerman headers and cans. Complete transformation! In the air it feels every bit as powerful as the DA 200. It is now turning a Falcon 30x14 at ~6100rpm.

Really good to hear you are getting on better with this now, Angus!

Though I think there is a lot more to come in this engine, both through it loosening up as you run it in, but more so if you ever add some tuning to the exhaust system

Yes, I'd say you are right Stuart. Although fitting a full tuned exhaust system in a CARF 330 would be very challenging with the low set wing tube. However, it is so good as it is now I'd be reluctant to change it. Once I get a bit more time on the engine I'll start experimenting with the 31.5x16 and 32X14 Engel props. I'm hoping these will be a lot quieter than the Falcon 30X14 which seems to give fantastic power and speed but can get pretty noisy unless you are ultra careful with the throttle.

Morning, Angus

I don't think you'd need to go to pipes to get a big gain.

I see that Chief Aircraft in the USA still have a Mintor 220 tuned canister set for sale: http://www.chiefaircraft.com/min-ck220-105.html

Fit something like those and you'll see a big boost from a canister exhaust package!

I went from a (recommended) RE2 pipe set up on a DA 60 to a Zimmermann canister and lost less than 100rpm...gaining much nicer throttling. :-)
