DA50/knife edge ?

Postby Pete R on Tue Jun 13, 2017 2:46 pm

I have a new DA50 in my Extra. Now it runs like a lovely, nice tickover, good throttle up etc.The trouble occurs when I put the plane in to a knife edge it nearly cuts out. So i have flown the model without the cowl and it's fine. I have read about the cover plate mod. Which I will do,but do I just point the " fuel line vent" into the fuselage of the plane or do I need to put the line in some sort of bottle or ??
Cheers.Ta.

Just a tube into the fuselage should do it. Its the low pressure caused by the Extra/Edge cowling shape.

I had the same issue, I put my carb vent into an old 35 mm film can I found in a draw and put it 20cm or so back from the cowl, a series of holes around the can to let air in, the carb tuning no longer changes. Did the job, but no idea if just the pipe would have done the job just as well.

I also found a velocity stack smoothed out the throttle, I now use them on all my engines.

I have put a vent pipe into fuselage, will try it. If it's no better will put end I a bottle/can. Hopefully it will cure the problem.
Thanks
Pete. :D
