Another Newbie

Hi guys, my name is Ben. I currently live in Canyon, Texas which is just south of Amarillo, Texas.

I got started in the hobby when I was a teenager but never flew until 2004. Prior to moving to West Texas I primarily flew 3D and IMAC. I don't do IMAC anymore as the distances to go to competitions are too far for the most part. I am thinking about getting into pattern in 2015 though.

I am also learning to fly helis.

My current fleet is:
Blade 300X
TREX 600N
Synergy E7

3DHS 89" Slick (still miss my EF 88" Extra 300)
Sabre 47 (currently being converted to E-power)
EF 48" Yak (still in the box but about to start building)
EF 48" Extra 300 (crashed but repair in progress)
Goldberg Tiger 2 (being converted to E-power)
Parkzone Radian
TopModel Nike 2 Warmliner (build in progress)
Dalton 150cc Extra 300 (being built; https://plus.google.com/photos/10482065 ... 0974787569)

Hi Ben and welcome to the forum, I hope you find it a useful and fun place.

I know exactly what you mean about the 50cc EF Extra. I had a couple of those and now miss them, but also miss my old Pilot 88" Extra too as that was a great plane as well. Ah well, onwards we go with an all electric fleet, lol

Great to have you on board :D

Ben welcome. You will find this forum a more relaxed place to be in comparison to FG and RCgroups ;-)

Well, it's taken me some time to build it. I was in grad school when I got it and then lost another year after I finished school and moved. My wife and I had to live in an apartment for a while and then I didn't have a workshop so I couldn't work on it. It will be further delayed if I get into pattern flying but I feel the need to compete. I've been fighting some doldrums with the hobby lately and the thought of getting into pattern has reversed that. I originally got it because I figured I could build it in a year and I wanted it for IMAC flying. I'm a plant breeder by day and at least 80-90% of the breeding stations in the US are in the midwest where IMAC is big. Needless to say, I ended up in a place where IMAC is not big lol!

I will finish and it's a work in progress. My wife and I are trying to pay off her student loans so having the $$$ available is an issue right now.

I also forgot to mention that before the site went down, I was a forum moderator at downonthedeck.com if anyone here remembers that site.

Jeez Ben your goin back some time to DOTD :D
A victim of its own success ! God I used to love goin on there dreaming

Great to see you on HighAlpha . The Uk side of flying is also in the dull drums at the moment with a few factors to blame.

Small back garden country where the neighbours moan about noise!

Crappy governing body for model flying or trying to represent us!

Gay Marrige that apparently affects our weather so it's always feckin raining

Great to see ya here bud.
